“Why do you want to buy the 3GS? You already have 3G one. What’s the big difference?”
For those who rarely use other apps other than Bejeweled and Phone, you will never understand my need.
I have about five photography apps on my iPhone currently. And with another mini blog to maintain, I’d like my photos a little bit more crisp. And seriously, video recording and editing rocks. If I had one last week, that blog post would have been much more interesting.
Now I’m between two options: Succumb to True Move‘s blood sucking corporation and buy the handset from them, or wait for MBK to come to their senses and slash the price down to match the True Move deal.
I mean, True Move already announced how much they’re selling their phones. B24,500 for 16GB and B28,500 for 32GB.
I just checked on the website of one of the most reliable iPhone vendors at MBK, they are still selling these for B33,000 and B37,000 respectively.
Now the good thing about buying from True is that they’re an authorized retailer. But then again this is Thailand and this is True we’re talking about, so after-sale service and customer relations mean shit to these people. So if you get a fucked up iPhone, be prepare to get it replaced with an equally fucked up refurbished one. So it makes no difference in terms of service where I buy the phone from.
Gonna go check MBK tonight and see where these crazy pricing if going. Worse comes to worst True will finally get my money.

I ordered mine from the Hong Kong Apple Store. 32GB, Black: B27,500, tax-in.
For service, I’m guessing I can take it to any Apple Authorized Repair Center.

When will you be posting a pic of your Apple shrine?
Just admit you’re addicted to the illusion of exclusivity.

I’m probably missing the point, but if you’re concerned about the quality of photos from your cameraphone, why not actually buy a cameraphone with a good camera. The 3GS is only aobut 3.5 years behind the industry.
I, for example, am the proud new owner of a Nokia N86 with 8 megapixels, variable apature 28mm lens, extra-large sensor optimized for low-light situations. This, my fine feline, is a quality camera that just happens to make phone calls.
Of course, it’s not an iPhone. I choose to pair the best phone out there with the iPod Touch instead.

I bought my second 3g (unlocked Hong Kong unit) For 28500 at Winner last year. It was my totally my fave iPhone for almost a year.
Even though I am maintAing my current 3gs (jb ul) I will be buying another factory unlocked unit in Nov/Dec.
GK says there’s no need for jailbreak but she is incorrect IMHO…;()0

Re: Ray
You DO know the difference between jailbreaking and unlocking right? Because if according to you, then this past year I had been using an imaginary iPhone.
Re: Pattaya Ghost
iPhone 2MP camera takes much better quality photos than my previous Nokia N95′s 5MP camera. When I had my Phone jailbroken (Note to Ray: this means to install third party apps that aren’t approved by Apple. I.E. Something totally optional) I was using Cydia’s Cycorder and the video quality was undoubtedly much better than any one of those Nokia multimedia ones. And this is just 2MP. Now think iPhone, 3MP camera, auto-focus and HD videos. Oh yeah.

Video is not HD, but I can see your point.
We’ll agree to disagree. Technically, the 95′s photos were not better. More noise, poorer color reproduction, less detail (due to megapix count), but the photos are optimized for the iPhone’s screen. They look very good on the unit itself, but the same shot side by side on a computer shows the 2mp (and now 3mps) shortcomings.
But, hey, you’re happy with what you go. I think only now with 3.0 is the iPhone even useful. Before I classified it as a really good web/PDA device and a really lame phone. Just took apple 2 years go catch up to features other phones have had for years.

Well, GK, since I roll my own while you have it done for you,I will leave it up to you who really knows the difference. More to the point, thanks to apps like 3g unrestrictor my connectivity does not end at the door of Siam Paragon or Starbucks or whatever wifi den of iniquity you care to name. Nor am I under the thumb of Att or True or Apple.
Cycoder? Woot! Well I guess but your recent commenters are correct — even the 3gs takes mediocre images of any kind in comparison to others. But I will be keeping mine..

Woot! Ray! Look at me! Using the 3GS from HK! How? I don’t know. I just opened the box, put in my Thai SIM card, turned it on, and oooh wow miracle! It works! It must have jailbroken itself while on the plane knowing it was flying from HK to come see me in BKK. Wow. The iPhone really IS Jesus!
Woot!

Uhh,Ms. Gnarly, care to edit that last? The sim works because the phone is unlocked. If it’s a factory unlocked unit from HK then jail break has nothing to do with it. Even if it were not a phone unlocked at the factory you would not absolutely need jb to unlock it.
Out of deference to your self-proclaimed geekness, I’m trying hard to give you credit for knowing that already so your point is?
Pardon my grin..

Let’s take a little trip back in time shall we?
“I will be buying another factory unlocked unit in Nov/Dec.
GK says there’s no need for jailbreak but she is incorrect ”
Now who’s confused.
I’m done with you. Please go annoy someone else. I’m sure you have better things to do in South Carolina than picking fights with some random blogger from Bangkok.

This is from Ray, aka Ron Erter actually. He was just too shy to post it here.
“Well GK, Grow up just a little and learn how to admit when you are wrong. You will be a better person in every way.
Your comments sure make it seem that you have no clue what you are talking about. You are not ignorant, just hate to admit when you are wrong. Hmm..
Do you really think your stubborn refusal to admit the obvious goes unnoticed?
Have a day. Hope the shoe leather is tasty. ”
Gotta love this guy. Thanks for the traffic! Did you click that Adsense? Next time you’re back, and I know you will, please don’t forget.
Are people from South Carolina all this bitter? My cousin goes to school there. I don’t want it to rub off on her.
I love you Ray. Please come back. Don’t know what I would do without you. Thank goodness you don’t have a life or we would have never had such a profound conversation. I’ll miss you to death.
One advice: Don’t type a hate mail when you’re angry. The typos just make you sound even funnier.
