iPhone geeks wanted

It hit the old soft spot I tried desperately to hide. I promised myself I wouldn’t give in. That I would steer clear and never to turn back. But I can’t resist anymore.

I’m doing slave work for BK Magazine again. What’s the bait? iPhone story.

So let’s get to the point.

We’re looking for Thai iPhone application developers. Can be a farang doing a Thai app, can be a Thai geek doing an inter App. Can be old, young, adept or amateur. We just want to hear your story. Heck I want to hear your story. I have been downloading the special iPhone Development 101 podcasts from Stanford in hopes of gaining fame and fortune one day. If I had the time. Or the effort.

So please if you guys know anyone who makes iPhone apps (in Thailand only please), or if you’re happening to have your own in the making, contact BK Magazine at tech@asia-city.co.th or me for more details.

The Country’s Pride

Found this really nice collage on BangkokBugle.

Thailand's Pride and Joy

Thailand's Pride and Joy

Awesome. Good job redshit.

Back to normal

Or at least that’s what we’re being assured by the government.

I am in awe at how incompetent our police and soldiers and law enforcers are. I mean I have always known they are useless to some extend, but really to have your fire trucks, public buses and army tanks climbed on and hijacked so easily, how can we ever feel safe in this city?

Two days ago we were out shopping at Tha Prachan when I was told the tanks were coming to the area and that state of emergency was declared. And I tell you we were just on the Chor Por Ror and Phitsanulok just at most 30 minutes before it all started but somehow all the way back into the city we found these roads all blocked and flocked with our nation’s finest rednecks.

To be able to block such big roads is such little time is amazing. What did the cops do, just watched? What did the soldiers do when they started climbing the tanks, just watched?

Amazing Thailand really, I am impressed by how awfully incompetent this whole nation is.

OK, thanks to Marky who finally made those soldiers do their job, I’m glad it all worked out with no casualties–at least not by the hands of the government’s side.

And really do you really believe they were for real when they “surrendered”. Come on, don’t let this stupidity drag on.

It’s come to the point that I wonder why Thaksin is still alive. His daughter is on Facebook, along with hundreds, even thousands, of other twenty-something Bangkokians whom her dad pissed off this week, I am sure he’s not that hard to find, especially when she keeps updating her status about what she’s doing and where, and at times complete with pictures of herself and daddy.

One other thing that pissed me off. Where the fuck was the PAD? You guys were all balls when it was your turn, closing down airports and things, but when your enemies were out torching buses, where were you? Watching the whole ordeal in the comfort of your Hua Hin resort homes?

This country pisses me off each day I grow older.

Life’s a Beach

At Dusit Laguna in Phuket for a press trip. In a room all for myself.

It sounds like a dream situation to be in until I realized this area was hit by a tsunami 4 years ago.

Now being alone in the room doesn’t sound very appealing. But on te bright side (literally) at least I can sleep with the lights on without bothering anyone.

By the way, I’m kicking it old school for this trip and left at home my über fantastic G10 and brought along Olympus OM-1 with black and white film instead. Now we’ll get to see once and for all if I’m really good at photography without all those scene modes, LCD previews and delete option.

Resort Hopping

I just got back from a 4-day resort hopping trip to Hua Hin and surrounding districts.

I also did some tweaks on the blog to make it look cleaner to support my new page–the Gallery. I finally extended my US$25 Flickr pro account so I could show the world my newly uploaded 200 shots.

Hey, on this trip I totally went all out with my Canon G10. I doubt none of my cameras has ever been so seriously worked up like this one. I was still too scared to use the RAW or manual settings though but I have mastered the ISO, exposure settings, manual focus and whole lot more functions I wouldn’t otherwise get a chance to play with with my old crappy Sony Cybershot.

B18,000 is totally well spent.

Now on the next trip I hope to finally master the manual settings so I can start using my aunt’s old Olympus OM-1 I found in a forgotten cupboard in the house.
